How E-Liquid has Evolved

We are one of the leading E-Liquid manufacturers in the UK, established in Preston, UK, since 2014. With over 10 years of experience in the industry, we have certainly seen it all. From the humble beginnings of E-Liquid and E-Cigarettes to the shake-up of laws and legislation that now define E-Liquid in the UK as a premium, high-quality product. Xyfil has been there. As one of the first to adapt to new changes in the market and establish TPD compliant E-Liquids, we look back at where E-Liquid and E-Cigarettes first began.

Where it really started

It wasn’t until the 1980’s that nicotine replacement therapies began to take off as our understanding of the harm of smoking grew. At first gum and patches were developed but offered little in terms of the cigarette-smoking habit. They only offered the ability to deliver nicotine to the system. This alone unfortunately isn't enough for many people to quit smoking.

That’s why in 2003 a Chinese pharmacist called Hon Lik decided to create a device that resembled traditional smoking. He created the very first E-Cigarette that used ultrasound waves to vaporise a nicotine solution - the very first E-Liquid. By the addition of resistance heating, it produced a vapour to inhale giving rise to the vaping we know.

The demand grows

Since then, there have been many new discoveries with E-Liquids and E-Cigarettes. We’ve come a long way from cig-a-likes and the first basic E-Liquids. Now we have devices with interchangeable parts, pod kits that are easily refilled, disposables for the ultimate convenience, and innovative ways to deliver nicotine and substantial flavours.

From new technology that creates smoother experiences with vaping, to brand new ways of mixing flavours. And with a healthy market, which continues to rise each year, it’s no surprise that demand for E-Liquids and E-Cigarettes continues to grow. As soon as vape tanks hit the market, the need for more variety with E-Liquids, in flavour, strength and different PG:VG ratios, became apparent.

How legislation changed the path of E-Liquid Evolution

You are more than likely already aware of the TPD regulations that came into effect back in May 2016. At the time this caused a stir as it meant many changes were necessary to sell E-Liquid in UK and EU markets. E-Cigarette tank capacities were limited to 2ml. Bottles of E-Liquid were limited to 10ml max capacity. Nicotine strength was capped to 20mg/ml and some flavourings were added to the ban list.

The biggest problem for vapers was certainly the bottle sizing as no longer could they carry around large bottles of E-Liquid to top up their tanks. This was especially an issue for heavy vapers or those using low resistance, high wattage devices. So, E-Liquids went through a new evolution giving rise to the shortfill. These bottles contained nicotine-free E-Liquid which allowed them to be produced in bottles larger than 10ml, and manufacturers then kept a little space in the bottle so that vapers could add their own 10ml nicotine shot.

Xyfil were one of the first UK manufacturers to implement these changes and successfully establish TPD compliant products in the market. Our manufacturing practices allowed us to make the necessary changes quickly and efficiently, from re-bottling E-Liquids to the new capped sizes to amending, re-printing and re-labelling products to comply with the regulations. A service we continue to offer today for those looking to bring products to UK, EU and UAE markets. Whether you are looking for manufacturing, white label services or compliance services, we are here to help.

Where we are today

The advancements in technology have also led to the creation of nicotine salts, a revolutionary way of delivering nicotine in E-Liquids, that prove beneficial for those looking to quit smoking. At Xyfil we offer an unrivalled nicotine salt formula that has continued to win awards each year.

Nicotine salts are extracted from the tobacco plant to create the purest form of nicotine, which provides a stronger hit many smokers/ex-smokers require. It's also kinder to the throat than similar strength freebase nicotine E-Liquids. It is one of the most efficient ways of taking nicotine due to its biocompatibility and is favoured by many vapers who say it delivers a more satisfying vaping experience. Speak to us if you are thinking of creating the next big nicotine salt brand.

It’s certain that E-Liquid can only continue to grow and evolve as the market continues to enjoy growth each year. Anticipating the Future – Disposing of Disposables

Disposable vapes have exploded in popularity with consumers and brands in the last few years. And it’s not hard to see why with their simple design, ease of use and cheap production. Disposable vapes have also been touted as a great method for introducing newcomers to vaping due to their ease of use. They require little to no prior knowledge of vaping and are predominantly draw-activated, much like a normal cigarette. But for all their positives, there can also be negatives associated with disposable vapes.

Although they may start off cheap, in a short amount of time they quickly become more expensive in the long run for consumers. Not to mention the environmental impact caused by these un-recyclable devices that are tossed away sometimes only hours after use.

How disposable and rechargeable E-Cigarettes compare?

Although there is still some environmental impact from pod devices, as they need to be responsibly recycled also, with proper care they can last far longer than their disposable cousins. In general, disposable devices offer anywhere from 300-500 puffs on average per device which can last the casual vaper a couple of days - even less for those who vape more. In comparison, a pod device can last 6-7 months before its components need replacing.

Pod devices offer refillable pods or pre-filled pods, each with built-in coils. So rather than having to replace the device, users can simply top up their pod or pop in a fresh one. Users don’t even need to know how to replace a coil as the pods come pre-built with coils ready to use. Refillable pods are certainly more environmentally friendly but will need replacing after a few top-ups due to the coils getting clogged up with E-Liquid over time, but this is still less waste than with disposable devices. Pod devices also mean that once the battery runs out, vapers no longer need to worry about buying a new device as they can simply recharge and go.

With the push for more environmentally friendly options, we believe that pod kits will truly be the next best thing for both new and seasoned vapers.

The future is pod devices?

Not only do new vapers benefit from pod kits, but many existing vapers look to pod kits as a cheap and easy alternative for vaping on the go, rather than taking expensive mod kits out and about. Being friendlier to the wallet and the environment, pod kits should be the next big push in the vaping market by conscience brands.

With growing technology and understanding of vaping growing with the general population, it’s only natural that the market starts leaning more towards these middle-ground devices. And with pod devices working exceptionally well with nicotine salts, the revolutionary way of delivering nicotine in E-Liquids now’s the time to become the market leader and get ahead of the trends.

What Makes a Premium E-Liquid?

You have probably heard many businesses claim to offer premium or superior E-Liquids, but what makes an E-Liquid better than others? Is there any truth to the claim of a ‘Premium E-Liquid’? And how can we, here at Xyfil, help you with manufacturing your E-Liquids? Let’s take a look.

What makes an E-Liquid ‘premium’?

There are several factors that can make an E-Liquid, premium. The quality of the product, the ingredients and the processes that go into making them, all affect the quality of the finished product. All E-Liquids feature vegetable glycerine (VG) and propylene glycol (PG) as well as flavourings and nicotine (or are nicotine-free in the case of shortfills and longfills).

Quality VG and PG are a standard, but those using a poorer quality are not necessarily worse, but an impure solution should be avoided.

Food grade ingredients are usually the most common for manufacturing E-Liquids. However, some do also use pharmaceutical-grade base products. These of course are a little more costly to produce, which therefore raises the price of the overall finished product. This is because of the stringent testing that the ingredients undergo compared to food-grade products.

The true worth of a premium E-Liquid comes from the flavour profiles. E-Liquids may offer more diverse flavour combinations or simply more complexity and realism to a single flavour. That is not to say that all cheap E-Liquids are sub-par flavours, the key lies in the vapers. If those vaping the flavour have acute tastes and notice subtleties in flavour then a premium E-Liquid would be more beneficial. Those who struggle to taste hints of flavour, just like in wine and coffee, would enjoy cheaper, less premium versions just the same.

If you are looking to create a trusted, safe, top-quality E-Liquid that is truly premium, ticking these boxes is a must.

Xyfil manufactures premium E-Liquids

We strive to create premium E-Liquid brands alongside our existing customers and those looking to manufacture with us. Xyfil continues to create premium E-Liquids and we can back up the claim of ‘premium’ with how we work, and how we manufacture.

All our E-Liquids are produced and fully certified in an ISO:9001 accredited facility. This means we promise high efficacy and quality of the products we produce.

We also offer full traceability at batch level, of our raw materials, plus traceability of the people who have worked on the products. Being able to monitor the process every step of the way, ensures the safety of our products.

The plastic bottles used for all of our E-Liquid products are FDA approved, food-grade. Ensuring that every aspect of the product is quality controlled and compliant is a priority.

Our flavours are built from complex formulas with nuances of flavour, perfectly balanced to deliver what consumers are looking for. Quality flavours that feel and taste authentic.

The flavour ingredients we use are sourced only from the UK, European and US markets. This helps us ensure that they are food-grade safe, and also helps provide multiple supply lines should any issues arise that hinder possible supply chains.

When we produce different flavours, the process involved requires different steeping times for each blend. This helps us to create an optimal flavour that is unique to our blends.

For our nicotine-containing E-Liquids we use our award-winning nicotine salt formula to provide the smoothest nicotine hit in the market. Our nicotine salts are recognised worldwide and continue to achieve awards each year.

All of our base ingredients are European Pharmaceutical grade, the cleanest and safest grade available on the market. We don’t just guarantee customer satisfaction, we also prioritise customer safety by using only the most premium of ingredients.

How Can E-Liquid Manufacture be Eco-Friendly?

Eco-friendly, kind on the wallet, and better for your health - it’s not hard to see why the vaping market has seen such continued success against the tobacco industry. For those looking to learn more about becoming an eco-friendly E-Liquid manufacturer, and maybe develop your first eco-friendly products, we’ve put together a few starting points to get on the right track.

Source and Distribute Local to Save The Planet

We all know shipping products across the globe with hundreds of air miles is harsh on the environment. Whilst many vape or E-Liquid products are shipped and sold internationally, becoming a local manufacturer or selling locally help keep your E-Liquids in good stock without the long journey.

At Xyfil, our head offices and production site are based in Preston, UK. We’re proud to produce and sell to the national market and support the UK industry. However, our manufacturing facilities have also developed across Dubai, UAE, Europe, North America, and the Middle East - so wherever you are in the world, a Xyfil E-Liquid can be on your doorstep with minimal environmental costs.

Dispose of disposables

It’s no surprise that disposable vape devices have boomed in popularity both with customers and manufacturers. Cheap to make and easy for consumers to get to grips with, they allow brands to reach new customers and promote new flavours. But at what price?

Disposable vapes contain lithium-ion batteries which are usually designed to be used at least 300 times, with the average being around 500 – that’s 500 puffs per device. However, regardless of whether there is life left in these disposable devices once the E-Liquid runs out, they become virtually useless and are thrown away, often only hours after first being used. That’s hundreds upon hundreds of batteries being manufactured, transported around the world, and then discarded. These devices are not even recyclable due to the battery and nicotine in the device making them anything but environmentally friendly.

Of course, these trends live and die by the consumers so it’s not surprising that brands have raced to bring out their own disposable devices. Pod devices seem to be making a return, and these kits offer a much more environmentally friendly alternative, whilst remaining simple for new vapers. Many pod kits offer refillable cartridges that only need replacing once the coil burns out, rather than replacing the whole device.

We offer a variety of E-Liquid product types from 10ml TPD compliant E-Liquids to shortfills in 60ml and 120ml. Our manufacturing services include freebase nicotine as well as our premium nicotine salt, combined with our award-winning flavour blends, at Xyfil we can help you create your E-Liquid brand or take it further.

Is Your E-Liquid Sustainable?

We’ve never been more aware of the importance of understanding where our products come from and the mark they make on our planet. Making sure the E-Liquid products we produce use ingredients sourced mindfully and sustainably is one of the best steps to becoming an eco-friendly manufacturer.

At Xyfil, the CBD used for our CBD vape liquids is 100% organic and sustainably sourced from traceable farms in Colorado, USA. We also maintain full traceability for all our products, including sample collections on raw materials and full tracking throughout the product development life cycles. This way we can be sure of every step of the process. So, we know our E-Liquids are eco-friendly, sustainable, and consistent.

Develop Your Eco-Friendly E-Liquid Range Today

Hopefully, our starting points have got you thinking about how to make your vape devices and E-Liquids more eco-friendly and, perhaps, some new ideas for developing your next eco-friendly product. What is ISO 9001 Accreditation?

Those looking at manufacturing companies for producing products may have come across the term already. Having heard mentions of ISO accreditations you may be wondering just what it means. Is this certification as important as it sounds?

At Xyfil we are proud to have been ISO 9001 accredited. Read on as we explain why you should look for companies with ISO 9001 accreditation.

Who are the ISO?

These management system standards were created by the International Organization for Standardization, and the name simplified to work across all languages as ISO (derived from the Greek term ‘isos’, meaning equal). An independent, non-governmental, international organisation, ISO seek to bring together experts to share knowledge, develop, support, innovate and provide support companies for global challenges.

What is ISO 9001?

The ISO 9001 sets out the criteria for a quality management system and is a certified standard. There are over a million companies and organisations across the world certified to the ISO 9001 standard.

But what exactly is it? This standard is based on several management principles used to ensure quality. These include: a strong customer focus, motivation, and involvement of top management, plus processes for continual improvement.

ISO 9001 accreditation ensures that companies provide customers with consistent, good quality products and services. As a manufacturing company, we at Xyfil are proud of our ISO 9001 accreditation as it shows we are consistently pushing to provide our customers with only the very best.

What are the benefits of ISO 9001?

Benefits of ISO 9001 accreditation include being able to manage our employees and processes in a more efficient way, increasing productivity.

With our ability to produce 2.5 million products a month, we maintain impeccable quality and ensure the safety of our products. We have implemented rigorous methods of traceability and accountability to cover every aspect of our work to give peace of mind to our customers.

Throughout the entire manufacturing process from the moment, we begin with your product, we apply meticulous attention to detail. We are able to track each step with batch testing from flavour development, production, packaging and more, up until the product leaves our door.

Risk assessment is also a key benefit to our accreditation. In the manufacturing business risk assessment, especially where supply lines are needed, are essential. Being able to continue producing products and meeting customer demand no matter the sudden changes outside of our control, is one of our strong suits.

The pandemic has shown that many businesses struggled with supply lines in the unprecedented effects brought on by it. During the pandemic, we remained open without a single day of manufacturing lost because of our extensive strategies. We continued manufacturing and producing products for our customers by putting in place protocols to keep our staff safe and ensure the highest quality of production continued. This risk management allowed us to navigate alternatives to solve issues that arose from the pandemic by having prior plans for them just in case of this eventuality.

What does this mean from us?

Xyfil is accredited with the ISO 9001 which means that we have been independently certified to be operating according to International Standards. These standards should be what all manufacturers strive to achieve, and by being able to certify that you have reached these standards, offers you security and confidence in the handling of your products by these manufacturers. Flavor Development

Flavour Development – E-Liquid and CBD

E-liquid and CBD product sales margins don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. In fact, some sources predict they’re set to climb by at least 20% between now and 2027. Now is the perfect time to get ahead of the curve.

Here at Xyfil we are experts in helping you develop your CBD or E-Liquid product, from initial idea development right through to creation, regulation compliance, and packaging design. The market for E-Liquids is competitive with new brands/products appearing every day. To stand out in this growing market and get ahead you must get creative when developing your next product flavour.

Define Your E-Liquid with Flavour

With so much competition now on the market, offering something that’s new but has the staying power to build a loyal fanbase is key. Your product packaging and logo may be enticing to new customers, but what really keeps them coming back is the experience of a great product. Flavours are obviously a big factor in a customer’s choice when picking their E-Liquid or CBD vape. So whether you are looking to bring a new variation to an existing, popular flavour, or a completely new experience, research is key. Much research has found that fruit flavours rank highly amongst most vapers, albeit only by a little more. This doesn’t mean that other flavours such as menthol, desserts, drinks and tobacco should be ignored, it means there’s room for improvement which very well could be your next venture!

Let us lead you through the best route for flavour development.

Eliquid

Working with Xyfil means working with an industry leading team you can trust. When you’re trying to get ahead of the competition, make sure your production is as straightforward as possible and save yourself the stress. We’ve got you covered.
