Top 8 Vaping Packaging Design Trends for 2023

1. Sleek Minimalism: Simplicity is key for minimalistic designs as they strive to create an impactful, yet uncomplicated visual experience. This trend promotes an uncluttered look with plenty of negative space and sleek, clean lines. The minimalism approach is all about making an impression with subtlety and sophistication.

2. Bold Branding and Typography: Brands are tapping into their creative sides to create unique typography and logo designs for their packaging. This trend encourages companies to use bold fonts that truly reflect their brand identity, as well as eye-catching colours and patterns to help their products stand out on the shelves.

3. Unique & Eye-Catching Shapes: To capture consumer attention, brands are utilizing unique shapes for their packaging. From square containers to triangular boxes and beyond, these designs offer an exciting way to display your product in a captivating manner.

4. Colourful Patterns and Textures: Eye-catching colours and textures can help brands create a unique visual experience for customers. This trend encourages companies to utilize patterns, illustrations, raised printing, and other elements that help their product stand out from the competition.

5. Nature-Inspired Designs: Packaging designs are embracing the natural world, with designs that capture the beauty of nature through vibrant colours and detailed illustrations. From plant-focused patterns to animal or insect themes, this trend encourages companies to draw inspiration from the outdoors and create unique packaging experiences.

6. Customizable Features: To help customers stand out in a crowded space, brands are using customizable features to make their products more unique. From adding personalized text and logos to creating custom-shaped containers, this trend encourages companies to get creative with their packaging designs.

7. Industrial Aesthetics: Companies are looking for ways to capture the attention of tech-savvy customers by embracing industrial aesthetics in their packaging designs. This trend encourages brands to use metallic colours and geometric shapes to give their product a modern and stylish look.

8. Retro Influences: This trend involves bringing back old-school designs from the past with a modern twist, such as classic fonts, vintage illustrations, and muted colour palettes that capture a nostalgic feeling for customers. These designs can help brands stand out in a competitive market and tap into the nostalgia factor.

Custom Packaging Solutions

Custom packaging solutions are becoming more popular in the vaping industry, as companies look for ways to create a unique experience for their customers. From custom shapes and sizes to personalized printing options, this trend encourages businesses to think outside of the box when it comes to their packaging designs. Companies can utilize custom foam inserts, windows or labels that feature their logo or brand colours, helping them stand out from the competition.

Additionally, companies can choose from a variety of finishes for their product that creates a completely different look depending on the chosen finish. This could be satin or gloss, spot UV or embossed, or even uncoated which can make for a more natural finish. With custom packaging solutions, companies can create a unique and branded experience for their customers.

Sustainable Packaging Solutions

Sustainable packaging is becoming an increasingly popular trend in the vaping industry as companies look for ways to reduce their environmental impact. This involves using materials that are recyclable, biodegradable, or compostable. For example, some companies are using paper-based packaging with vegetable dyes and recycled content that is easy to recycle and reuse. Additionally, some companies are moving towards removing packaging entirely and having all the necessary information on the product solely. Sustainable packaging solutions help brands become more eco-friendly while also giving them a competitive edge in the market.

In conclusion

As the vaping industry continues to grow, so do the packaging design trends. These trends are helping companies stand out from their competition and create a unique experience for customers. From colourful patterns and textures to customizable features and sustainable solutions, there is no shortage of ways brands can differentiate themselves in 2023. Utilizing any of these packaging design trends is sure to help companies gain a competitive advantage in the vaping industry.

Standing Out from the Crowd in the 2023 Vaping Industry

In the vaping industry, product descriptions play a crucial role in helping E-Liquid brands stand out from the crowd. With so many E-Liquids available online, it can be difficult for a brand to differentiate itself and attract customers. However, by crafting effective product descriptions, E-Liquid brands can set themselves apart and increase their chances of success.

Creating a voice for your E-Liquid brand

Building a brand voice for an E-Liquid brand can help to establish a unique identity and differentiate the brand from its competitors. Here are some steps to help build brand voice:

  1. Define your brand's personality: Determine the personality of your brand, such as whether it is fun and playful, sophisticated and luxury, or serious and professional. This will serve as a foundation for all your messaging and content.
  2. Develop a tone of voice: Based on your brand's personality, develop a tone of voice that will be consistent across all your content, including product descriptions, social media posts, and other marketing materials.
  3. Use storytelling: Use storytelling to convey the brand's message and values. Share the story of how the brand started, its mission, and the unique features and benefits of the E-Liquids.
  4. Be consistent: Consistency is key when building brand voice. Make sure that all your content, whether it's a product description, social media post, or email newsletter, uses the same tone of voice and messaging.
  5. Use imagery: Use imagery that aligns with the brand's personality and messaging. For example, if your brand is fun and playful, use bright colours and playful imagery in your marketing materials.
  6. Engage with customers: Engage with customers on social media and other platforms to build a relationship and create a sense of community. This can help to build trust and loyalty.
  7. Keep the brand voice in mind: Always keep the brand voice in mind when creating content and make sure that it aligns with the brand's personality and messaging.

By following these steps, an E-Liquid brand can establish a unique and consistent brand voice that will help to differentiate it from its competitors and attract customers.

Give your products a voice and make them tell a story

One way to make your E-Liquid and vape product descriptions stand out is by highlighting the unique flavours and ingredients used in your products. For example, instead of simply listing the flavours in your E-Liquid, describe the taste experience and the specific flavours used to create that product. This not only helps customers understand what they can expect but also sets your E-Liquid apart from others that may use generic or similar flavours.

Specifics pave the way to understanding

Another way to make your product descriptions stand out is by emphasizing the quality of your E-Liquids. Many customers are wary of cheap, low-quality E-Liquids, so highlighting the use of high-quality ingredients and manufacturing processes can help to build trust and credibility with potential customers.

In addition, providing detailed information about the nicotine strength and VG/PG ratio of your E-Liquids can be helpful for customers looking for specific vaping experiences.

You can also include customer reviews and testimonials in your product descriptions. This can be a powerful way to build trust and credibility with potential customers.

Finishing touches

Finally, it's important to keep your product descriptions up-to-date. With new flavours, ingredients, and trends constantly emerging in the vaping industry, it's important to regularly review and update your product descriptions to ensure that they are accurate and relevant.

In summary, to make your e-liquid product descriptions stand out from the crowd, focus on highlighting the unique flavours and ingredients used in your e-liquids, emphasizing the quality of your e-liquids, providing detailed information about nicotine strength and VG/PG ratio, including customer reviews and testimonials, using high-quality images and videos, and keeping your product descriptions up-to-date. By following these tips, E-Liquid brands can effectively differentiate themselves and attract customers in the competitive vaping industry.

Is it Profitable to Start a CBD Brand in 2022?

New CBD start-ups are hardly in short demand but doing it right and doing it well can be a different matter. Does this mean that you shouldn’t consider starting a CBD brand in 2022? Absolutely not! In fact, now is a great time to join the CBD market and we’ll tell you why.

The growth of the CBD market

Data has shown that the UK’s CBD market has blown well past the estimates previously thought. In 2021, the CBD market was worth £690 million, where only a few years ago it had previously been estimated to be worth £526 million by 2021. It’s now forecasted that the UK CBD market could reach £1 billion by 2025. Is there a reason for this surge?

There have been notions that the UK’s market worth has grown so well due to our evolved regulatory framework. Across the globe, most other countries where CBD is legal, do not have much or any regulation regarding CBD products. In this case the UK is leading the way with our regulatory framework that is working to ensure UK CBD products are both safe and good quality. As of March 2021, all CBD products in the UK must be filed for approval through the Foods Standards Agency (FSA).

One of the reasons why a lot of consumers are turning to CBD products now are due to the reported benefits for those with stress and anxiety. Although there is much research still underway to prove any sort of medical benefit, many believe that CBD can help them. And after the influx of stress and anxiety thanks to the recent pandemic and global lockdowns, people are looking for ways to help. It is important to note however that those who sell CBD in the UK cannot make any medical claims about their products unless they are regulated, medicinal products registered with the government.

What’s holding back CBD in the UK?

As mentioned, the lack of medical verification on the effects and benefits of CBD is one thing that does hinder the CBD market. Many of the studies and clinical trials were only able to begin after its legalisation in 2017. And while we wait for these results and further testing, many reputable companies are unable to express the benefits of their CBD products.

This leads onto the next issue; awareness and education. The lack of public education and awareness around CBD, especially on the legality and effects, has left a largely untapped market in the UK. Currently, younger demographics (between 18 and 30) are the most likely to use CBD. As the regulations change and more information becomes readily available for the public, we should see an even greater increase in market growth.

How to start your own CBD business

Starting now is the perfect time to create and establish your brand before the tidal wave of others that are sure to follow. Even if you only offer a limited range of products in the beginning, ensuring your presence in the CBD market will help you in the long run. Where do you begin then?

Sourcing your product

Possibly one of the most vital parts of establishing a CBD brand is sourcing your materials. Whether you’re looking to launch a CBD vape range, CBD topicals range, CBD oil drops or other product types, your CBD should be of the highest quality. Ensuring the hemp that your CBD is sourced from is organic and grown on regulated farms helps to establish your product’s quality. When it comes to health and wellness, customers are much more clued into the quality of products. With many articles across the web pushing for those who buy CBD products to check their ingredients, lab reports and more, transparency is key.

Organically grown hemp means that your products are more likely to be free of any harmful chemicals that could be present in pesticides – hemp is well-known for absorbing all nutrients from its environment. Many choose to source their hemp from farms in the US where most of the high-quality, high-grade hemp is grown. Now sourcing your own hemp can be costly and time-consuming, as well as the process of importing and processing into CBD oil. This is why many brands turn to wholesale CBD manufacturers like Xyfil.

Branding and target audience

There are already several CBD brands that have established themselves as market leaders, even in the early stages of this market. Because of this, newcomers will need to position their products with smart branding to truly stand out. Finding a demand that is currently not being met and targeting key types of customers will work to your advantage.

We know that the majority of those who are likely to use CBD are aged between 18 and 30. Do you want to create a brand that caters for the younger audience or young at heart? Thinking about the type of customer you want to reach, and their needs will help guide your brand.

Diversify your product range

When first starting out it’s probably a good idea to launch your key product that’s tailored towards the audience you wish to hit. That way it helps establish your brand and your products. Once your brand name and message are out there, diversifying your range allows for more opportunities to upsell and entice more customers. If you’re looking to upsell and increase customers’ order values, then creating products that are co-ordinating are the perfect next step. For example, CBD disposables could give way to CBD vape liquids or CBD shots that can be added to E-Liquids, all of which you can find in Xyfil’s repertoire.

White label manufacture or OEM?

When it comes to producing CBD products with a trusted CBD manufacturer like Xyfil, you often have a choice of white label manufacture or OEM. OEM allows for much more versatility with CBD products by creating recipes, product types and more that are completely your own.

However, for hitting markets quickly, white label manufacture is unrivalled. Especially in the current market where CBD products are only allowed on shelves after being registered and approved by the FSA. Therefore, using CBD products and formulas already registered like Xyfil’s CBD product list, helps to get on shelves quicker and with less cost overall.

Whatever you choose the CBD market in the UK is quickly growing and is a worthwhile investment to join. But to make the most of the CBD market, and with the regulations that are being established here, it is imperative to make sure your products are high quality. Xyfil is proud to be a leading CBD manufacturer in the UK with our high-grade CBD oil sourced from organic, regulated hemp farms in the US. Make the most of our award-winning CBD formulas and well-established products that have helped many brands already hit shelves in the UK.

What is the Role of a Production Scheduler?

Some of our most valuable team members often work behind the scenes. With so many moving components and teams at play, maintaining organisation is key. Although our work is the result of many diligent teams, there is one who helps to co-ordinate between them – the Production Scheduler.

We sat down with our Production Scheduler to find out what a day in her life was like, and who might want to consider becoming a Production Scheduler.

The Production Scheduler Role

“The production scheduler role is similar to conducting an orchestra. You’re responsible for ensuring that all the players and instruments come together to make the final symphony. The role requires working with a lot of people and getting involved with almost every part of the business. It’s challenging but satisfying to co-ordinate behind-the-scenes and see everything come together.”

Munira Patel, Production Scheduler, Xyfil.

As a Production Scheduler, my role includes much of the production and organisation of production elements to ensure customer orders are fulfilled in a timely manner. It requires strong flexibility to deal with problems, and work around them without issue. As with anything in life, things don’t always go smoothly when there are problems like machine malfunctions or personnel on sick leave. Being able to catch these issues early and adapt just becomes second nature. There’s never a dull moment!

How does the day-to-day for a Production Scheduler, look?

A typical day begins with a daily meeting with all production teams involved to understand any issues, challenges and forward planning for the day ahead. This could be delivery deadlines, staff shortages, or issues with machinery, all will be addressed first thing. Everyone has a voice in the production team and it’s this time of day especially, that their issues are worked around. No one wants a customer’s product to be delayed so we work hard to put measures in place from this meeting.

After this, the day truly begins and this can really vary on the day-to-day due to the nature of the role. The first task after the daily meeting and establishing any potential issues is dealing with them. So, the start of my day could be amending work schedules, communicating with procurement and logistics teams to resolve or firm up delayed deliveries, and liaising with technicians for fixing machinery. Whatever the issue, it’s important that I’m able to be proactive, adaptable, and responsive.

The second part of my day revolves around loading and planning orders. When customers provide us with information about upcoming launches beforehand, it allows me and our operations teams to create capacity and order components. This includes ingredients, bottles etc, before they’re needed means we’re more likely to be able to provide the product when customers need it. This can also include liaising with our customers and procurement teams to negotiate timelines and staffing levels.

As the day begins to draw to a close, it’s important to assess the day’s production and identify any issues that may have arisen during the day. Talking with production team members helps to stay updated on the state of production. All of which means that I can start pre-planning for the next day. It’s a cycle of consolidation, action, and planning, on repeat that helps to ensure we continue to produce products each day and efficiently use all our capacity.

What makes the Production Scheduler role so important?

Production is the conceptualisation of a customer’s product that’s been imagined by the customer and passed through R&D and design teams. Months of work have already happened before we get the production order. As the Production Scheduler, my role is to ensure the transition from concept to reality is as smooth as possible from receiving the product order to producing, packing and sending it out of our doors.

On any given day I could be managing between 700-1000 dependencies that require some form of forethought or action, to ensure those products pass through our lines and departments, to schedule. In the operations team, we put the puzzle pieces together to create the complete picture and realise exactly with the customer wants. And I am here to oversee and organise those puzzle pieces so that they fit correctly.

It's this, that really makes being a Production Scheduler a rewarding role. Seeing the plan come together as products leave the facility, knowing that the hard work of multiple teams helped to deliver this product to shelves. Even for those products that may have had roadblocks along the way; getting these out on time despite the problems offers a great feeling of satisfaction.

Looking to become a Production Scheduler?

Those looking to become a Production Scheduler must be adaptable and work well under pressure. It’s not just managing those in production, but also managing customer relationships, and liaising with internal and external departments. As a Production Scheduler, you are the hub of communication and information. There will be challenges and changes, so being a perfectionist won’t work, being someone who is flexible with the ability to think proactively is key.

If you have an analytical mind there’s a good chance you would enjoy this fast-paced, ever-changing role. Apply with us today to join Xyfil as a Production Scheduler.

Choosing Xyfil to Manufacture Your E-Liquids

A crucial part of the business is ensuring that there are processes in place that help avoid unexpected problems causing delays in production. And if the Covid pandemic taught us one thing, there are many industries and manufacturers who do not have these in place. Ensuring your manufacturer can navigate unexpected problems and provide what you need is essential, even more so in the current climate.

Identifying issues in your manufacturing line

Speak with your shop floor workers, supervisors, and those who deal with your products daily and see where there are any shortfalls. It could be a poor ingredient, problems with packaging, delays with your product manufacture – any issue that is impacting your production could potentially be a cash drain.

Or it could be that you manufacture for yourself and are looking to expand but notice your limitations. Buying new equipment, hiring new workers, increasing warehouse space etc; all of which quickly start to add up cost-wise.

Providing services you need when you need it

Working with a good manufacturer helps to take the stress out of otherwise tedious aspects of E-Liquid manufacture. This gives you more time to focus on other areas like networking and getting your products to the store.

Here at Xyfil, we offer a completely bespoke service aimed at helping you no matter what stage your products are currently at. If you’re conscious of producing your E-Liquids, we are able to work with any liquid you provide to bottle, test and package. We have helped many brands with our bespoke bottling services, with complete attention to the safety and quality of their products and intellectual property.

If your problems lie within the production of your E-Liquids, you can make the most out of our quality ingredients and award-winning flavours. We offer white label E-Liquid manufacture and OEM E-Liquid manufacture to suit your needs. Make the most of our premium Nicotine Salt formula that continues to set the bar in quality and performance.

Perhaps you’ve already produced your products but lack the means to package, test and ensure compliance? Xyfil offers the abilities of our in-house compliance team to ensure your products meet the regulations for the market you are looking to target. And combined with our creative studio we can create/edit packaging to regulatory needs including translation - we can help you hit any market in the UK, EU, US or the Middle East.

Why you can trust Xyfil

It’s no secret that the pandemic hit manufacturing hard. Problems with countries closing borders created issues with supply chains that wreaked havoc on manufacturing output. Many companies saw decreases in the products they could create due to a lack of resources. Xyfil was not one of them. Due to the many procedures put in place to deal with unthinkable problems, we had already implemented alternative supply lines. Many ingredients are outsourced from other countries, but during this time, resources pulled from within the UK became vital. Because of our numerous risk management strategies, we never lost a day of production during the lockdowns.

When it comes to protecting your IPs, we continue to provide excellent care by ensuring the confidentiality of your flavours/recipe. We always like to go the extra mile and ensuring your intellectual property is protected, is no different. During the lab processes and producing your E-Liquids, we provide codenames for ingredients that thereby limit the number of people who know the exact formula.

How We Help You Develop Your Flavours – Flavour Development

One of the vital aspects of product development and E-Liquid manufacture is of course the flavours. Flavours are what set E-Liquids truly apart and secure brand loyalty with flavours that are well-received and well-loved by users. Of course, the vaping industry is full of products with similar flavours which can make it hard to get your products to stand out. That’s where we step in.

Suleman Umar, Product Developer Manager

“We are here to support your brand every step of the way. No matter what your product is or what services you require from us, I’ll be your first point of call in helping develop your products to the specifications you need.”

As a product development manager, I’m involved in most aspects of product creation. From market research, development, compliance, budget control, flavour creation, and working alongside our creative studio to get the perfect look that symbolises what the products are – I’m there the entire way.

Having in-depth knowledge of compliance within the industry, across various countries, helps accelerate the development of flavours that are guaranteed to be approved by consumers and respective authorities. Not only that, but I work exclusively with many of our clients to produce their award-winning brands, develop new flavours never-seen-before and provide insights into the industry.

What does the Flavour Development Department do?

The journey always begins with a customer brief handed to us by the sales team. This usually relays all the necessary information from a customer that they’re looking to receive from us, be it flavour profiles, certain ingredients, overall theme etc. We then create a checklist to go through for flavour development – is the flavour intended to be candy sweet or subtly sweet? Is the flavour complex or simple? Is it a combination of flavours?

This process itself can be lengthy as we must first develop the flavour, especially if it’s a new or a unique variation – this is often the most challenging and rewarding type of flavours to create. Once we’ve put together the flavour it must then be tested with the customer, and this can go back and forth a few times until the perfect flavour is made. Even the slightest adjustment can mean a lot in terms of flavour – if it’s not quite got that fruity sweet flavour the customer imagined then we work on it some more to ensure it does.

We specialise in providing what the customer wants and need. Every flavour we create will be somewhat unique to them; a specific flavour profile that won’t be available elsewhere. Even with common flavours like fruits or menthol, we like to ensure that your flavours stand out from the crowd. And with over 2000 flavours already created, there’s still a lot of room for variety.

What does the Flavour Development department have to offer?

Here at Xyfil, we offer a truly unique, customer-focused service that puts the customer at the forefront of every decision. No matter which department you are dealing with, including Flavour Development and R&D, our goal is to make sure that you get exactly what you need. I love tinkering with flavours so when customers come forward with requests for unusual flavours, I’m more than happy to get working on them. No flavour is too strange and making each flavour unique to a brand is crucial.

You can always expect communication with us as we are very hands-on with helping our customers. There’s a reason why our customers develop with us and keep coming back, and it’s our guarantee to provide customers with exactly what they want. Whether it’s white label manufactured E-Liquids and CBD, or OEM, we aim to provide any service a customer may need when looking to take a product to market. The Flavour Development team is here to help you create unique flavours and, combined with our other departments, help you develop products that fly off the shelves.

Creative Studio – Branding, Labelling, Mockups and more

Taking your brand from idea to reality doesn’t stop at the manufacturing and production of your products. Designing quality, eye-catching product labels, boxes and giving your brand life is another one of our key aspects. Looking to manufacture E-Liquids? Let us help you not only manufacture and produce but create the designs that will take the market by storm.

Here at Xyfil, our Creative Studio encompasses many creative aspects of building a brand or product. Making your products stand out on the shop floor and online is a passion of our creative team. Meet our Creative Studio and learn more about the creative process behind brand creation.

Jack Tidy, Creative Studio Manager

“Whether you only have an idea, or are already halfway done with your project, the creative studio at Xyfil is a swiss army knife of creative discipline. We can join you at any stage of your journey and see it through to the end in a polished & professional manner.”

As the Studio Manager, my main responsibility is to intercept internal and external demands and manage the creative workflow for my team. Communicating with customers is key within the Creative Studio to get a deeper understanding of the brand/products we are working with. It’s not uncommon to have meetings with our clients to discover their needs and what they wish to achieve.

Translating these into actionable briefs and communicating between my team and clients is honestly something I truly enjoy. And I can wholeheartedly say my team also share this passion for our work.

What does the Creative Studio Offer?

Our Creative Studio exists to meet the demands of customers that need support for creative work. This could be those looking to create their brand and product range from the ground up. Or it could be for those who simply need product labelling and packaging updating for compliance. We work with complete brand concepts and creation to finalising product ranges. Plus we go the extra step by producing creative content for POS (printed media, digital web banners, media kits etc), all to help you and your brand hit the ground running.

There are those who already have an existing range/brand and are simply looking to update their labelling and packaging. We work closely with our Compliance team to update packaging and labels to suit global compliance measures. Our studio aims to provide an all-timeline service where we can help you through any step of the process, and after.

We are also capable of revitalising brands, bringing them into the modern market by updating their logo and labelling. This could be to make them more compliant or to rejuvenate the brand with a fresh new look. For example, The Big Tasty brand used to look very different but went through a design phase to uplift the logo and labelling to match the modern vaper. The designs became less flashy and more contemporary in a sleek, clean look that has certainly proven popular. The purpose of the design was to announce 'big, bold flavours' and we can certainly say we achieved this.

How is the day-to-day with the Creative Studio?

It really differs on a day-to-day basis as our Creative Studio encompasses a spectrum of creative needs. This includes the likes of content writing, digital marketing, graphic design and reprographic design. On a day, our designers could be working on new brochures or flavour cards to promote brands, to designing labels and packaging or product concepts.

We work closely with operations to intercept the demands of our clients to meet tight schedules. Pre-empting demands comes naturally as we work closely with our clients to create an understanding of their brand ideals and goals. For brands that are starting from the very beginning, the Creative Studio can help with logo concepts, brand name/range name concepts, product labelling and packaging all the way to product images and media kits with digital creative content.

The Creative Studio in Action

Since having helped found and grow the Creative Studio into what it is today, we have helped over 250 global brands. We have successfully supplied creative content for approximately 25 million units across different disciplines, across the globe. Flavour Production, Quality Testing & Nicotine Extraction

Providing high-quality products and services is at the core of our mission here at Xyfil. We are one of the leading E-Liquid manufacturers in the UK, providing E-Liquid manufacture opportunities and more.

One of the key areas of our business is our ISO 9001 and GMP certified laboratory, and ISO 7 clean rooms where much of the manufacturing of E-Liquids begin. Meet the people behind the award-winning nicotine salt solutions and custodians of product quality control.

Nikita Mhatre – Production Manager & Quality Assurance

“We have implemented a quality management system which helps the business with planning and execution of delivering a quality product. From a production perspective, this means a companywide commitment to eliminate errors at every stage of the product development process - from product design to manufacturing.  A recent acquisition of GMP accreditations have also boosted the credibility of the company and created a competitive edge in an increasingly crowded market. The implementation of GMP standards inline with current quality standards remains essential as it helps to ensure consistency, acceptability of product quality and safety of the products also remains integral.”

As production manager for our lab, I oversee the formulation of products and work to create an effective and efficient task force. This is ensured by planning and delegating work to meet daily production goals. Not only this but I run the procurement for lab items along with the key E-Liquid ingredients, ensuring only the highest quality of food-grade PG, VG and pharma-grade nicotine. Products are not released from the laboratory to the production lines until they’ve been past final quality checks. It’s an important task that helps ensure quality and safety.

By implementing root cause analysis and taking corrective actions, I have helped to remove production constraints and improve product quality since taking the post. Our laboratory staff see continuous improvement and training to ensure the quality of products that are processed. As part of managing my team, recruiting for new positions, and ensuring my staff have no issues and work in optimum conditions, is paramount.

What does the day-to-day look like for Xyfil’s lab?

I can honestly say every day is a new day. Days can differ depending on the products and formulations we are running for our customers. We have six talented lab technicians and two supervisors who run our lab work.

At the start of the day, lab technicians are given a recipe list that contains encrypted flavour names to protect customers’ recipes. Quality checks go underway immediately to check the quality of the gathered ingredients and equipment. To minimise on wastage of ingredients and nicotine formulations, we run QC checks with tight parameters. Many formulations can be re-used whilst still holding a premium quality, but should they fail QC checks then these are disposed of.

Every stage of the process, from weighing flavours to the mixing of the ingredients, is overseen by a supervisor to reduce any possible human error. All work is signed off to allow for full tracking of the product so that if an issue does arise, we can track back the work and amend it to reduce any impact that it could create.

Once the batch is produced, a sample can be gathered after being authorised by the supervisor, to go for testing. This checks for irregularities, impurities, nicotine strength, consistency and more. After all these checks and tests have been completed and signed off, the product can then move to production.

We are constantly looking to improve our processes to create even more streamlined methods. Already we’ve seen improvements thanks to GMP standards and our hard work to achieve GMP certification. Having been able to increase our production capacity is a clear sign of our dedication to continual improvement.

E-Liquid suppliers with award-winning nicotine salts

There are two meaens of production that we provide with our laboratory facilities.

We provide bulk production services for white label E-Liquid manufacture. This includes us gathering the E-Liquid ingredients and flavourings to the spec of the customer’s recipe, producing the E-Liquids and flavours, and packaging these for our customers.

Our lab also offers a blending process for white label E-Liquids. This process relies on pre-existing formulations that we have developed and produced that are ready to go straight into production for customers’ products.

Due to the unique versatility of our lab facilities, we also offer ad-hoc requests for a variety of products, tailored to your needs. If you have an idea for a new nicotine-based or CBD product we can surely help. Apart from our white label capabilities, we offer bespoke solutions for product manufacture and development.

With our extensive resources and renowned nicotine salts formula, we are even able to offer the bulk dispatch of flavour ingredients and pre-mixed, finished nic salts for customers to use with their own formulations. Our aim is to help you create award-winning E-Liquid brands and flavours.

Ensuring premium quality E-Liquids and CBD

At Xyfil when we say premium quality, we mean it. I am proud to say that we are among the first E-Liquid manufacturers in the country to be certified to GMP standards, with ISO 22716:2007 certification recently having been reached.

One of the ways we continue to pride ourselves in our premium E-Liquids is through our method for nicotine extraction. Our laboratory boasts an HSE verified nicotine enclosed system for nicotine extraction, to ensure that staff are protected during the process and that the quality of nicotine is without impurities. Much like this, at every stage of the process in the lab, we run tight quality control checks that are repeatedly checked by supervisors to complete thorough analyses.

For example, before an E-Liquid formulation can be assembled, all ingredients and tools must be gathered and double-checked to ensure their quality and efficiency. Only after these pre-checks are fulfilled can the formulation be put together. Mixed flavours and batches are first checked for any impurities or issues before being sent for testing and analysis. Only after passing these initial checks can batches be sent for testing, and upon passing all criteria, then be sent onto production lines for bottling.

Overall, I’m proud of the team I have created and the lab I have helped flourish into one of the many necessary hearts of the business. If there was one thing I would say to any potential customer looking to have us manufacture their E-Liquids, it would be that you will never be disappointed. I look forward to working with you in the future.

Compliance in the UAE – All you need to know

E-Cigarettes and E-Liquids only became legal for selling in the UAE as of April 2019. Up until that point sales of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) were illegal. ESMA (Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology) standards were introduced to regulate all nicotine-containing components used in E-Cigarettes, refill packages, E-Liquids and tobacco products. In the UAE, all products must go through the MoIAT (Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology) before being sold on the market.

If you are looking to sell in the UAE and middle east market, there are many regulations to consider, all of which we can help you with.

What are the ESMA regulations?

Many of the regulations are similar to that of the UK and EU. The law regulates the safety of all components as both electrical equipment and containing hazardous substances. These regulations are in place to establish the utmost safety and quality of all E-Cigarette and E-Liquid products in the UAE.

There are many factors that are restricted due to the regulations that impact the design of products to be sold in the UAE, the manufacture and marketing of said products. These include:

  • maximum nicotine concentration is capped at 20mg/ml
  • maximum tank capacity is no more than 10ml
  • maximum capacity of refill packages is no more than 50ml
  • must display all health warnings in Arabic and English stating: “Contains nicotine which causes severe addiction, increased heart rate and high blood pressure. Nicotine is harmful to the health of pregnant and nursing women, and people suffering from chronic pulmonary diseases such as asthma and pulmonary embolism.” This must cover at least 50% of the main display area. English to appear on the lower front, Arabic on the lower back.
  • must also display a health warning in Arabic and English: “This product may pose a health hazard when inhaled, swallowed or gets in contact with the skin.”
  • must not contain a variety of harmful ingredients & additives including cinnamic compounds

What you need to know before manufacture/import

Before any E-Cigarettes or E-Liquids can be imported, manufactured or placed on the market, all products must be approved by the ESMA documentation. These satisfy the needs for:

  • reports of safety tests
  • list of full ingredients and quantities including statement specifying reason for including each ingredient
  • results of toxicology reports
  • data on nicotine doses and absorption
  • acknowledgement of manufacture/importer responsibility for quality and safety
  • descriptions for use
  • ISO 9001 certification for the manufacturing site
  • stability studies supporting product’s shelf life
  • lab reports including information on nicotine concentration, quality & safety, post-marketing and post-consumption analyses and electrical safety
  • risk assessment studies

Each item, whether E-Liquid or E-Cigarette, requires ECAS certification to ensure all of these needs are met. This is not only a lengthy process but can be quite costly to navigate with several stages for each certification and complete the appropriate paperwork. This is where Xyfil comes in.
